My Thoughts

What I expected to do in this program was learn new things about computers that you don't learn in school and learn how to work programs that I usually don't work with on a daily basis or very often. My favorite activity that we did was taking apart the computers. This was my favorite activity because it gave us an opportunity to learn about the different parts of the computer and learn about each part individual. We learned how each part functions and how it is all hooked up to get it to work. I think we should drop some of the reading and do more visuals and hands on activities. I think the readings should be dropped because they a long and tend to make you lose focus and fall asleep and don't give you a good picture of what they may be talking about. We should include more hands on activities and visuals to provide us with a better understanding and to keep us focused.
I have been able to use some of the skills that I have acquired in this program with my new laptop. I had to download programs on my laptop to be able to run other programs and it also helped me with learning how to use 2007 Microsoft programs. Being in this program did not help me in school because we don't work with computers that often. I do think this program will help me in the future if we switch to 2007 Microsoft programs in the next years.
Overall the thing i enjoyed the most out of this program was meeting new people and learning how to work with others. I also enjoyed learning how to function new programs on the computer. The thing that i didn't really enjoy about the program was the long readings because they weren't very interesting and i didn't get much out of what I was reading. This program was very helpful and prepared me for things that I might need to know when I might get a new computer or need to know how to run certain programs.

Job Readiness Essay

My name is Kenyana Madison. I attend Eastmoor Academy high school and I am a sophomore. I always wanted to work with babies and wanted to pursue a career in the medical field so I decided I wanted to be a Neonatologists. I value my education very much because it determines my future. I try to maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average and participate in activities that would benefit me and qualify me for some of the top ranked colleges. People have told me that I have a fun personality and I get along well with others. I also like to have fun with my friends and spend as much time with them as possible.
Some previous training that I have had prior to this class was some basic computer classes that I took in middle school. I knew how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft word and PowerPoint. These are the only two programs I knew how to function because when we were assigned projects to do at school those were the only two program needed to complete the project. I also had a little training on how to use Microsoft excel but I"m still a little vague on how to function it. The most common use of the computer is surfing the Internet, which I am very educated on because we use the web a lot to research projects and find information on various of subjects.
My knowledge on technology now has come a long way. I have learned how to download various programs that help you with running documents on and off the Internet. Through City Students Tech Corp I have learned different components that help with running programs on the computer and what the job of each of the components maybe. I have learned how to take a computer apart and learned how it is all hooked up and what some of the parts were and how they run the computer. The main aspect that I have learned through this program is networking. I have learned different techniques to help you network with other and how it could help your career.
Once I graduate from college I plan to attend college and pursue a career as a Neonatologist. In order for me to reach my goal I have to first start with preparing myself in school by maintaining good grades and being a top student to show how I feel about my future. I plan to do volunteer work and intern to get a little of experience on what I plan to do for the rest of my life. I want to prepare myself as much as possible so I can be ready for anything that might be thrown my way.
This program has prepared me in many ways because its helped prepare me for future jobs because many jobs are switching to technology and it will help me to be ready. I feel this program has educated me very much on technology because i came into this program with very little knowledge on how to operate a computer. I will carry out what I have learned to help me with prior jobs and my career focus. I hope at the end of this summer my intern has prepared me and educated me to be able to reach my goal more successfully.

Summer Employment

What I expect to get out of my summer employment is to gain more experience in the work place. I expect to get as much as possible out of the experience and use what knowledge or techniques I learn to help me with future employments. What I look forward to the most as far as my summer intern is to just learn as much as possible and have fun with the experience. I hope my summer intern will educate and provide me with experience in my future career.

Summer Jobs

The top three jobs that I would like to be assigned to this summer would be a job that would pertain or relate to a neonatologists or a pediatrician or a job set in a more buisness like atmosphere. I would like to be assigned to these jobs because in the future I would like to become a neonatologist or something close to that proffession and would like to experince or have a feel for what I may be getting myself into before I pursue that proffesion. Iwould also like to have a little experience in that field so I know what to look forward to and have something that would look good on my resume. I would find these jobs at places like Children's Hospital or Mount Carmel. If I had some experience in this field, stayed in school, maintain a high GPA, and take as many coarses as possible it would make me successful at my job.

Powerpoint Presentation

Mike's Powerpoint presenation was very informational and taught me a lot about Powerpoint I did not know. I learned how to use animation and upload videos and music. I also learned how to apply sound effects to slides and apply different backgrounds. I think the powerpoint could have included graphs and diplayed different methods on how to use and apply graphs to slides.

Introduction of myself

My name is Kenyana Madison. I attend Eastmoor Academy high school and I am currently a sophmore. In my free time I enjoy reading books and listening to different varieties of music. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and going to the Therapeutic Arts Program where I go to spend time with more of my friends and the counselors, Ms. Cheri and Ms. Regina. As a student in high school my grades are very important to me. School is my first priority, so before I spend time with my friends and having fun I tend to my school work and try to keep my grades suitable for college. I plan to finish high school with a high grade point average and attend college at Wright State University and pursue my career in becoming a Neonatologist.

My expectations of this program is to learn as much about computers and different functions that would help me in the future. I expect to learn how to network over the computer and techniques that would help me with a future job. While here in the TechCorps program I expect to learn as much about computers as possible. I would like to learn more ways of using the computer other than listening to music, looking at pictures, writing papers for school, and emailing others.

So far, while here in the program, I have learned how to create a blog, the definition of what a blog is, and how to use hyperlinks for words within my Blog. The techniques and tools that I have learned so far, have been very beneficial for me within my future, as well as projects that I may have to do in school during my computer classes. I also like the fact that I could use these techniques to help out other people and show them what I have learned. I don't have any thing negative to say about the program because it gives me a big opportunity to learn how to do new things to stay ahead of the game.
